I know you don’t want basic home grooming to be a wrestling match with your dog.
I know you care about how they feel, and you want to respect what they’re communicating.
But I also know that sometimes… a dog’s muddy paws need to be wiped.
And long-hair dogs should be brushed regularly.
And almost every dog will need their nails shortened – but that so many dogs hate the process.
So the question becomes, how do I give my dog a voice, and also do what needs to be done?

Here's what we know:
Force and coercion lead to significant fallout. Pinning a dog down, or taking away their agency, can result in distrust in certain routines or environments. It can also break down your relationship with your dog and in some cases prompt defensive, but aggressive behavior.
Just offering a high value distraction isn’t enough. True counter-conditioning, the process of helping your dog feel differently over time, can’t happen unless your dog feels safe. And that will only happen through a predictable routine – not ambushing them.
This is where Cooperative Care offers a compassionate and clear path forward
in changing how home grooming routines look. It takes clear systems of communication and gradual exposure frameworks to make it happen, but it can be relationship changing for so many sensitive dogs and the people who love them.
Remi, My rescue mixed breed,
falls into the “touch-sensitive” category. I kept our “work in progress” status keep me from releasing this course for way too long, despite having helped dozens of clients work through my exact system to chance basic home grooming looks.
Well, not any more. Remi and I aren’t done this journey – but we are on it, and we want you to join us.

Hey, I'm Mattison
I’m a multi certified dog trainer and behavior coach and I specialize in virtual training for dogs with big feelings. My absolute favorite thing is to help people like you understand your complex dog better.
My business, Freed by Training, is built on second chances. I work with 1:1 clients all over the world on mostly moderate to severe behavior cases, but I also consult with local rescues on transitional training and provide low-cost training resources on my Instagram and Patreon. Two of the things I’m most passionate about teaching are: muzzle conditioning and cooperative care!

FAQ's
Is Camp Cooperative Care live or recorded?
Both! You will have access to pre-recorded video lessons and other resources, PLUS a chance to submit a video for feedback. It’s the perfect combination of structure and ‘do it on your own time’, with little nudges of feedback and encouragement along the way.
When does the program begin?
The program officially begins on Monday, June 9th. But you will have access to a few introductory topics during a "Welcome Week" starting June 2nd. Every Monday, a new set of lessons will be released as we work our way through my 4-step framework and 7 home grooming routines.
Here’s what you can expect once you sign up:
-
You’ll get an email from me immediately with a full program schedule and your free copy of The Ultimate Dog Owner Goal Setting Planner (you don’t necessarily need it for this program, but it will make approaching your other goals with your dog much more manageable).
-
On Monday, June 2nd, you will have access to welcome lessons.
-
On Friday June 6th, you’ll onboard to my virtual training space (where you will submit your videos for feedback).
-
On Monday, June 9th, the live program will kick off!
-
On Monday, August 18th, the program will officially conclude.
How does the video feedback work?
I will onboard you to my private virtual training space. Every week, you have all the way up until Midnight EST on Thursday to submit your video for feedback. Each video should be no more than 5 minutes in length.
What if I’m traveling, unable to submit a video, or miss the deadline?
Things happen! And I recognize that this can be a busy time for many traveling families. That being said, the deadlines are firm but missing one or many weeks won’t ultimately hold you back on your journey. Not starting will.
How long do I have access to the materials?
How does forever sound? You’ll be able to access the full curriculum at your dashboard under “My Programs” any time.
How much time will it take for me to see results?
I believe that if you follow my approach and give the process a dedicated ~10 minutes a day, 6 days a week during this program, you’re going to have a solid foundation and be ready to move forward towards your individual goals. I obviously can’t make guarantees, especially without knowing your individual dog’s sensitivities, but I’ve seen the power of counter-conditioning paired with a deep understanding of reading your dog and creating cooperative routines.
If you’re still here, you probably fall into one of these two groups:
#1 – You love all things R+ Training and you want to start (or get unstuck) on your cooperative care journey with your dog.
#2 – You’ve tried a bunch of things already and nothing has ever made a difference, but you’re ready to try something new so you can finally see results.
Either way, you’re welcome here! It doesn’t matter what decisions you’ve made with your dog in the past – it’s never to late to start over again.
Camp Cooperative Care is going to give you the path and partnership to take the guesswork out of that process.
I’ve got you.
